Delta Airlines Refund Policy

You are entitled to a full cancellation refund if you cancel within 24 hours after booking your ticket.

Delta will typically not charge your ticket until the "24-hour hold period" has expired. This means that you can cancel the ticket that was not yet paid for. This law is mandatory for all airlines and does not require you to go through a traditional cancellation process.

Delta only requires that cancellation requests be made within midnight on the day following purchase of an eTicket or midnight on the departure date for the first flight. Before travel begins for the first flight, a cancellation request must be made.

Cancellation of a flight cancels the right to a refund

You are entitled to a full refund if your Delta flight is cancelled and you do not wish to be rebooked on another flight.

Delta will first try to rebook you on an alternate flight or to convert your ticket value into an eCredit that can be used for future Delta travel. If you need a refund on a flight that was canceled, Delta will provide it in the original payment form.

Delta Basic Economy Ticket Cancellation Policy

Basic Economy tickets that were purchased after April 30, 2021 cannot be cancelled. You will lose the value and cannot cancel Basic Economy tickets purchased after April 30, 2021. This is only one reason to ensure that the savings you make on a Basic Economy ticket are worth the potential downsides. They are usually avoided.

Refundable tickets vs. Refundable vs.

It's relatively simple to get a refund for a fully refundable ticket, but it can be much more difficult if you have a ticket that is non-refundable.

Delta Airlines will not issue refunds for non-refundable tickets unless the following circumstances are considered "unplanned".

Death of the traveler, traveling companion or immediate family member.

Although you cannot always get a full refund, you can still receive an eCredit, which is the equivalent of the price of your ticket less any cancellation fees. You can redeem the eCredit for a future Delta flight.
